The Oakdale is moored in the Duddon Estuary, just off Askam-in-furness, on Cumbria’s South West Coast on the edge of the Lake District.

Askam is a coastal village with golden beaches, fabulous views, a links golf course and plenty of pubs. Askam is in striking distance of all of the Southern Lakeland hotspots like Windermere, Ambleside, Hawkshead and Coniston. Whilst only being an hour from the more northern haunts like Keswick and Derwent Water.

Nearby towns:

Dalton-in-furness is a medieval market town and the ancient capital of Furness, it is mentioned in the Doomsday book of 1086. The town has the nearest leisure centre, thriving pub scene and hosts the popular attraction of a wild animal park.

Barrow-in-furness offers pursuits not normally associated with the Lake District, such as an arts centre, cinema, bowling and a lively nightlife. The ruins of Furness Abbey are worth a visit as is the Dock Museum.

Walney Island is great for kite surfing and in 2006 was host to the British Kite Surfing Championships, lessons are available. It also hosts a bird sanctuary with the largest mixed ground nesting of herring and lesser black-back gulls in Europe.

Ulverston is a market town with some nice shops, resteraunts and pubs. It also has the Manjushri Centre a Buddhist retreat of international importance, which is open to the public and sited at Conishead Priory.
